Skeleton Coast Expedition
The Skeleton coast of Namibia is a name that evokes visions of shipwrecked sailors and lost souls. It is also a coast line filled with tales of hardships and adventure, diamond and dust. The wind is tearing at your legs and the sand whipping around the wheels of your bicycle. You gaze with tired eyes into dune filled distance and ask your self” where am I, why am I here”?
The Skeleton Coast Expedition is a cycling adventure that will test your resolve to challenge yourself against a harsh and at times extreme environment. The expedition takes place in the north western part of Namibia in a seemingly barren yet wildlife rich ecosystem. This will be an expedition to explore your inner self and yet at the same time you will find the region rich with adventure and contrasting beauty. There will be days, where you will feel that time has stood still for millions of years, it will beckon you and you will ride towards it.
This expedition will be centred around a fly in and fly out by aircraft, saving time on traveling to the designated region. The route will transverse through very different landscapes from the rocky heart of the Damaraland, over endless gravel plains teeming with an assortment of wildlife and onto the mighty ephemeral river system’s that carve their way into this ancient landscape. Here in this arid and seemingly inhospitable landscape there can be chance encounters with the black rhino or desert adapted elephant that will leave you trembling with excitement. Finally after days of toil and adventures, will arrive at the sandy dune fields of Skeleton Coast Park, concluding on the wind swept coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. We would have explored some of the most diverse geology found on the planet, still in its purest form.
- This is a cycling adventure out of the ordinary and one that will you feeling privileged to have completed.
